Hello! My name is Viktoria and welcome to my blog ^_^!
I have been interested in public health for quite some time and got serious about it when I started my medical academy path in high school and joined as a volunteer at the school’s food pantry last year. New school year started recently, and our food pantry is back to collecting, organizing, and distributing supplies and food for students in need. Someone may not realize how important this supplemental food service is, but we always have a student who needs a bit extra food to take home. It got me thinking about how the lack of important nutrients can affect children in a school setting.
One article state that “At least 14 million children are expected to face disruptions to nutrition support and services because of recent and expected global funding cuts, leaving them at heightened risk of severe malnutrition and death- “(Unicef.org). One-way poor nutrition affects kids is that it impacts childhood development, which then branches off into a variety of health and social problems. Their growing brains aren’t able to get the proper vitamins it needs which puts them at a disadvantage compared to their peers who have access to nutritious food at home. They are also more likely to get anemia, and other medical problems due to the poor diets. More studies show that these types of children struggle in social environments and have a higher chance of repeating a grade.
This absolutely broke my heart. I would like to use this blog to spread awareness about severe problems like this one, to improve public health in my local community and the world as a whole.
